166 villages in Soroti district are on the verge of being hit by diseases related to poor faucal disposal due to lack of toilet and hand washing facilities.

According to the District Health Inspector Emmanuel Ekodeu, out of the 309 villages in the district, only 143 have toilet facilities and 64.3 percent have after toilet hand washing facilities.

Ekodeu says that he believes that people from the 166 villages without toilets are a section that has resorted to sharing toilets with the neighbors and using the nearby bushes.

This he stressed puts the lives of people in the community at a risk of being hit by epidemic diseases like cholera, typhoid among others.

However, Martine Amodoi the district health educator said the district has started establishing village health task force in every village to work in conjunction with the village health teams to enforce sanitation bylaws.

He also revealed that by the help of the village health teams, they are to start a move to identify and arrest any persons without toilets.
