Ugandan rally driver Gilberto Balondemu will start today's Mille Collines rally in Nyamata district Rwanda targeting a finish to emerge the East African 2WD category champion.

Balondemu navigated by Steven Bunya in a Toyota Corolla accumulated points after participating in both Pearl of Africa rally and Mountain Gorillas rally of Rwanda early this year.

"I only want to finish the rally and emerge the east Africa champion in my category," Balondemu said.

"My only challenger in the 2WD category is WOI Ismail Lule of Uganda but Rwanda's Yoto Fabrice Yoto is not a threat. Even if he wins our category, he cannot take the championship from me," Balondemu stated.

The Mille Collines rally is last round of the Rwanda National Rally Championship led by Jean Claude Gakwaya of Rwanda with 67points, 31 points ahead of challenger Christophe Nizette.

Ugandan Wilbert Pole Pole and Bashir Mbogo-Mitsubishi Evolution VI (Kajara Rally Team) who is defending champions will not be able to defend the title this year.
"I am too much committed with private business and I will not be able to travel to Rwanda," Pole Pole told Saturday Vision.
