Rev Fr Dr Joseph Namukangula, an internationally acclaimed Catholic music composer and long-serving teacher at Bukalasa Minor Seminary, in Kalungu District (Masaka Catholic Diocese), is now 50 years in the Catholic priesthood.

He celebrated his sacerdotal golden jubilee at his family homestead at Kitoma, in Masaka District, on Saturday.

His function was graced by thousands of Christians from all over Uganda. Many musicians from Uganda and abroad, whom Namukangala taught music, also graced the function.  With a repertoire of over 1,000 liturgical hymns to his credit, it was not very surprising that Namukangula's function was of an enormous magnitude.

Namukangula was praised by many people, who mostly acknowledged the holistic impact of his musical ministry, his positive attitude to work and his sensitivity to the environment.

Msgr Joseph Kasule, who delivered the homily during the thanksgiving mass, asked Christians to emulate the good religious and moral examples of Namukangula. He also asked them to internalise the messages in his songs and act on them to deepen their faith.

Namukangula also received acknowledgement from the Bishop of Masaka Diocese, Dr John Baptist Kaggwa, who in his message (delivered by Msgr Serverus Jjumba) thanked him for sharing his gift of music with the Holy Roman Catholic Church.
