DP | BAYIGA ARREST

The Democratic Party (DP) has threatened to drag the Police to court over last weekend's arrest of former Buikwe South MP, Dr. Lulume Bayiga, who is said to have been arrested while offering medical services to residents.

"The arrest and imprisonment of Bayiga is unlawful and unconstitutional. We are telling Kayihura and his Policemen that those who committed the offence shall be personally answerable," said Kenneth Kakande, the DP Spokesperson.

During the party's weekly press briefing at City House in Kampala yesterday, Kakande urged the Police to not allow themselves to be used by the Government in power, saying they should be keeping law and order.

Bayiga was arrested at Ngogwe sub-county headquarters in Buikwe district while treating residents of Buikwe at a health camp.

The health camp was organised by the Rotary Club of Mukono. According to media reports, Bayiga was charged with obstructing Police work and holding an unlawful assembly. He is currently in Luzira.

"We are going to as our lawyers to pursue the case and take those responsible to court. Nobody shall walk away scot free. We are a party that believes in law and order. We are a party that believes in protection of human rights," Kakande said.
