Defending champion Morris Ashaba is expected to be among a strong field of over 200 competitors as the eighth edition of the annual Kenya Golf Day championship at Kitante on December 8.

Addressing a press conference during the tournament launch at Kitante on Friday, tournament director Anthony Agaba said the tournament is held in Uganda to enable Ugandans celebrate Kenya's independence with their Kenyan neighbours  in the spirit of East Africa's integration.

Uganda Golf Club captain Joseph Bagabo added that the tournament is also used to cement the two countries' business and tourism ties.

"We anticipate the tournament to be more interesting than that of last year and we hope golfers turn out in big numbers so that we enjoy the day, golf and delicacies from our sponsors Multiple Industries,"

"The course is in good condition and we are working around the clock to ensure golfers enjoy the day," Bagabo said.

Geofrey Katoro, who represented Multiple Industries said they believed in a bigger market and a bigger region and believe in the East African integration is one the reasons they are major partners with this tournament.

"I call upon all golfers to come and support the Kenya Day as we join in celebration of their independence," Katoro stated.

The stable ford format of play tournament is co-sponsored by Kenya Ports Authority, Equity Bank, Britam, Bageine and Co. Limited, UBL, Coca Cola and Sheraton Hotel Kampala.
