The bicycles were donated to selected community groups in order to improve advocacy for Better health strategies

A total of 147 bicycles have been donated to selected community groups in order to improve advocacy for Better health strategies in the districts of Kabale, Rukiga and Rubanda.

According to Bernard Willy Byagageire, the western regional co-ordinator for the USAID-Advocacy for Better Health programme, the bicycles will be given out to health promotion groups established in selected sub-counties where the project is being implemented.

Byagageire said that the project which was launched in 2015 aims at improving the availability, accessibility and quality of health and social services in Uganda engaging communities in the planning and monitoring of health and social services.

He said that they were forced to provide bicycles to those groups after members expressed concern over transportation challenges in the execution of their duties.

Speaking at the handover of bicycles to beneficiaries in Kabale municipality at the Kabale district Rukiiko hall, Wilson Tibugyenda, the Kabale district chief administrative officer asked beneficiaries to desist from misusing the bicycles for their own selfish interests.

"Whenever you get such offers please respect them. Do not use them for your own businesses and protect these bicycles as If they are your own private property," said Tibugyenda.

The Kabale district chairperson, Patrick Besigye Keihwa warned Non-Governmental Organisations operating in the district against engaging in unclear activities.

"There are many NGOs in this district but we are going to start asking for their performance reports and those that we shall find without clear objectives shall be stopped from operating with immediate effect," said Keihwa.
