The Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Betty Nambooze Bakireke returned to the country yesterday from Manipal Hospital in India where she underwent a successful spine operation following the September 27 parliamentary fracas, when security operatives evicted suspended legislators from the House.

Nambooze who was in company of her husband Henry Bakireke, was welcomed by some of her supporters at Entebbe Airport.

While addressing the media shortly after her arrival, Nambooze said it was her spinal cord which was injured, not her heart and hence she vowed to continue from where she had stopped.

"I am not saddened by what I am going through because I know there must be a price to pay if we are to get what we are fighting for," she said.

"What hurts me is that am now included on the list of the privileged few who get medical treatment abroad on a tax payer's money and that money would be used to equip Mulago Hospital and also increase doctors' salaries," Nambooze said.

The Mukono legislator revealed that between sh250m-300m was spent on her medical bills in India and that she was referred back to Uganda's national referral hospital (Mulago) where she is supposed to undergo the remaining therapy.

"I am in pain because the body is not yet used to the metals inserted into my back, but at least now I can stand and walk," she said.
