300 student teachers miss exams

A total of 300 students from Kamuli Primary Teachers College have failed to sit for their final examinations after their principal failed to register them with Kyambogo University.

The students were shocked to be informed by authorities at Walugogo Primary Teachers College in Iganga that they were not eligible to sit for their final examinations at the centre.

The affected students later rushed to Iganga Central Police Station protesting the decision by their respective institutions to register them.

Michael Balituma the principal of Kamuli Primary Teachers College, when contacted declined to give a comment.

However, Rachael Magoola, the principal Walugogo Primary Teachers College said four colleges had earlier registered to sit for their final examinations at the centre.

Magoola, a veteran musician said the four institutions are Noor, Njeru and Busia Primary Teachers Colleges. The colleges have not acquired their own centres from Uganda National Examinations Board.

She said the affected students were sent away after discovering that their names were missing on the list of those eligible to sit for their final examinations.

The affected students later headed back to Kamuli and started throwing stones at their lecturers prompting Police to fire several times in the air to disperse them.

The Police spokesman of Busoga north, Michael Kasada said they are to sit with the school administration and the affected students  seek a solution to the problem.
