Doctors not sure of Museveni meeting

Dr Jane Aceng said UMA is not a registered workers’ union and, therefore, the strike organised under its name is illegal

The leaders of the Uganda Medical Association (UMA) have said they are not sure if they will meet President Yoweri Museveni at State House.

"It is not clear whether we will meet Museveni. Our team is in contact with State House. If they call us we are ready," Dr Ekwaru Obuku, president of UMA told the media yesterday.

Doctors laid down their tools to push the Government for better working conditions. Government has reacted by ordering them to report to work immediately or be sacked.

The doctors also complain of humiliation by State House's health monitoring unit. They say the unit's work methods are draconian and yet it is not helping to improve the troubled sector and they want it disbanded.

The Government through health minister Dr Jane Aceng said UMA is not a registered workers' union and, therefore, the strike organised under its name is illegal.
