Ssekandi urges students to embrace govt programs

A total of 90 students graduated with masters’ degrees

Uganda Marty's University Nkozi on Friday held its 23rd graduation with about 1200 students graduating with degrees, diplomas and certificates in various disciplines at the university's main campus in Kayabwe along Masaka Road. 

A total of 90 students graduated with masters' degrees, about 700 with bachelor's degrees, while the rest were awarded diplomas and certificates from faculties of Science, Education, Health Science, Agriculture, Business Administration and Management, from the School of Arts and Social Sciences and Ethics. 

Speaking during the ceremony, the Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi called upon the graduants to make use of the knowledge, skills and values they have acquired to contribute to the transformation of their societies and humanity in general saying that Government has put in place the environment to facilitate all forms of skill development. 

Ssekandi encouraged students to take advantage of government programmes like Youth Livelihood Programme, Women Entrepreneurship Programme and Operation Wealth Creation among others to create jobs by starting small and medium-size enterprises and contribute to their growth and the development of the country. 

He commended the Catholic Episcopal Conference of Uganda for founding the University which he said has increased on opportunities for students seeking higher education in the region saying that besides promoting spiritual growth, the Church has ably augmented Government efforts in empowering the population through socio-service delivery. 

He noted that since inception in 1993, the University has expanded in both infrastructure and academics that have seen it pass out more than 16,000 students, adding that with the background of high ethical values as enshrined in the university programmes, the University will have great impact not only on its academic success but also ethical workforce. 

Ssekandi said government is committed to enhancing the development of the higher education sector as part of the efforts towards achieving middle income status in the shortest time possible.   

The Vice Chancellor Nkozi University, Bishop John Baptist Odama, counselled the graduants to serve humanity without bias saying they are going out at the time when society is seeking men and women with values and urged them to lead by example cautioning them against all forms of corruption.
