Who will represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup?

Uganda risks from not entering a team for the CAF Confederation Cup if Vipers fail to take up the offer from FUFA.

Last week FUFA wrote to SC Villa and Vipers requesting one of them to take up the continental slot after Express turned down the opportunity.

Initial reports from SC Villa indicate that the club is unable to take up the opportunity.

"We received the letter from FUFA on Friday and they wanted us to respond by Monday (yesterday) and also pay $10,000 (security fee). The time given to us was not enough thus not taking up the offer," stated an SC Villa official who preferred anonymity.

Vipers who would be the last resort for FUFA were also yet to confirm whether they would take part or not.

"Yes FUFA wrote us and SC Villa. We heard that the first priority goes to the Jogoos (SC Villa). So we can't conform now if we shall represent till SC Villa comes out with a clear statement if they will represent or not. We shall meet as an executive during the week to decide and an official statement will be released," said Abdu Wasike Vipers' head of communications.

Before FUFA wrote to Vipers, SC Villa and Express, FUFA Big League side Paidha Black Angels was initially supposed to take the slot since they were runners up in the Uganda Cup.

Despite losing the Uganda Cup final 2-0 to KCCA last season, Paidha was given an opportunity to represent the country on the continent since KCCA had also won the league meaning they were to be Uganda's representatives in the CAF Champions League.

When Paidha failed to meet the requirements needed to compete, the chance was passed on to Express who the first semi-finalists were last season.

Some the requirements a club needs to compete on the continent are the $10,000 security fee to FUFA and have a stadium that meets CAF standards.
