The win helped the team qualify for both the 2018 7s Rugby World Cup in San Francisco and the Commonwealth Games in Australia

The national Rugby 7s team was today voted the Nile Special Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) Sports Personality for the Month of October 2017.

USPA members during their monthly assembly held at Imperial Royale Hotel unanimously voted the Rugby Cranes 7s team for its performance last month.

The team won the Rugby Africa Cup following the 10-7 defeat of Zimbabwe in the final at Legends Rugby Club to become on the second team to successfully defend the title since 2000.

The win helped the team qualify for both the 2018 7s Rugby World Cup in San Francisco and the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

USPA president Sabiiti Muwanga said that the assembly voted the team because of the magnitude of the tournament and level of achievement.

He also urged USPA members to practice professionalism while in their line of duty if they are to remain of value to society.

"It is only being professional that wins hearts of your readers, otherwise you will run out of business," Muwanga noted.

The meeting started with a minute's silence in memory of fallen sports administrators Godfrey Nuwagaba and Issa Kikungwe.

Nuwagaba was a former Uganda Athletics Federation and Uganda Olympic Committee treasurer while Kikungwe was a former Uganda Boxing Federation vice president.
