Vipers managed to win Mbarara City 1-0 away at Kakyeka stadium through a controversial goal as they moved second in the Azam Uganda Premier League standings.

The venoms who had gone three games without a win, needed the 80th minute strike by Mousa Mbayi to get back to their winning position.

Mbarara City players claimed Mbayi had kicked the ball outside the net. This was also the first defeat for Mbarara City at home.

The victory took Vipers joint second with Onduparaka at 15 points but the former league champions have a better goal difference.  

Police who were not in action on Friday are on top of the table with 16 points while Mbarara City remained tenth with nine points.

Elsewhere, BUL settled to goalless draw with Onduparaka at Kakindu stadium in Jinja.
 
The league will resume Saturday with three games. URA will host SC Villa at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole while Soana will travel to Jinja to take on Kirinya SS at Bugembe stadium.

At Lugogo, KCCA will play bottom side Masavu.
