The Minister for Gender, Labour and social affairs, Janat Mukwaya, recetly  launched a new book entitled: Child Abuse and Neglect in Uganda.

The book was written by Prof. David Kaawa Mafigiri and Eddy Joshua Walakai, who she praised for doing a wonderful job.

The book details policy targeted issues, applied forms of violence on children, cultural point of entry as agents of change and models of practice knowledge.

"The book's findings on violence against children survey will act as a basis on which government interventions will be situated to check the backward evil of child abuse in Uganda," Mukwaya said.

Mafigiri and Walakai are professors of Makerere University in the department of social work and social Administration.

Mukwaya congratulated Mafigiri and Walakai on the publication of the timely, well-reasoned book, which she said would make a great contribution to how Uganda will manage children's issues in the region.

"The book avails a unique perspective on how to address various forms of violence against children," Mukwaya stressed.

The book launch was at Makerere University's Senate building in Wandegeya, Kampala.

The minister stressed the collaboration between educationists and government on the challenging and the contentious issues in the region.
