FLOWER EXPORT | FREE ZONE LICENCES

Uganda's leading flower exporting companies, Rosebud Limited and Premier Roses, have been given Free Zone licenses from Uganda Free Zones Authority.

A Free zone is a designated area which companies are taxed either lightly or not at all, so as to encourage economic activity.

The Free Zones law was set up with the aim of promoting exports, increasing employment and increasing commodity processing from trading raw materials to finished goods.

Owned by businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, the flower firms produce flowers which include Sweetheart Roses, Valentino, Viva, Chelsea, Red Calypso, Meera, Akito and Blushing Akito.

The function, which was held in Namulanda Parish, Ssisa sub-county in Wakiso district, was graced by several government officials including the State Minister for Trade and Investment Evelyn Anite, State Minister for Environment Mary Kitutu and a team from Uganda Free Zones Authority.

The function kicked off with a tour around the farm to see the processes flowers undergo right from planting to the time of exporting.

Speaking at the event, Rajiv Ruparelia, the CEO of Rosebud Limited, promised to increase production and create more employment opportunities for Ugandans.

The chief guest state minister for investment, Evelyn Anite called on local investors to emulate Sudhir.

She commended the business mogul for his role in the development of the country by setting up a number of investments that have gone on to employ many Ugandans.
