The traders, led by Geoffrey Kayita, the chairperson of Nakivubo Road Old Kampala Kisekka Market Vendors, had scheduled this Saturday to celebrate a court victory passed by the execution division of the High Court on Wednesday.

Military police is engaged in running battles with traders at Kisekka Market in Kampala Central Division.

Currently, Kisekka Market is a no-go zone as the military is dispersing whoever tries to acess it.

During the scuffle, Central Police Station commander Joseph Bakaleke was hit with a stone in the face.

Business has also been brought to a standstill.

The traders, led by Geoffrey Kayita, the chairperson of Nakivubo Road Old Kampala Kisekka Market Vendors, had scheduled this Saturday to celebrate a court victory passed by the execution division of the High Court on Wednesday.

However, before the celebrations began, a group allegedly linked to the former chairman Robert Kasoro attacked them, prompting the Police and military to engage them.

On Wednesday, Justice Christopher Madrama upheld Justice Lydia Mugambe's decision, saying former chairman Kasoro was validly voted out of office by the traders on February 7, 2015. They elected Kayita their new chairman.

Speaking to NewVision, Kayita said they had notified the police about the celebrations, but were shocked when they interfered with them.

"We wrote to the police, notifying them about our celebrations, but we have been disappointed because instead of them protecting us, they have connived with thugs to disrupt our celebrations," Kayita said.
