AGE LIMIT

Kyenjojo district leaders have anonymously endorsed the constitutional amendment of article 102(B) to remove the age limit and allow the President to stand for elections after clocking 75 years.

The district leaders and elders' forum during a consultation meeting in Kyenjojo town council by the Mwenge south MP and former privatization state minister Aston Kajara on Friday said that the constitution should be amended in the interests of peace and security.

The consultation meeting held at Cave hotel was attended by sub county, district and religious leaders who anonymously supported Kajara to vote for the amendment of the Constitution in parliament.

Clovis Kagaba, the chairman of the elders said that they are behind the move to delete the presidential age limit and the entire process should be tackled before the 2021 elections so that president Museveni should be given time to prepare for the next elections.

"We are happy that our MP has come to consult us on the age limit Bill, we are in support and the district council has already endorsed the move,"Kagaba said.

Kajara said that he had embarked on a massive sensitization and consultation of the people in Kyenjojo about the age limit Bill.

"I'm happy that Kyenjojo is very peaceful and people are supporting the bill. I'm engaging all the stakeholders. Political, religious and civil leaders have been consulted,"Kajara said.

Kajara asked other leaders to engage in peaceful consultations instead of resorting to violence.
