EC issues guidelines for LC polls

Ugandans intending to take part in the election of LC I & II village chairpersons will have to register with the Electoral Commission at the village level, to be eligible for voting.

"Eligible and willing residents shall turn up in person at the registration centre within the village or residence to register," Byabakama Mugenyi, the chairperson Electoral commission told Journalists on Wednesday, at the commission headquarters in Kampala.

According to Byabakama, the registration exercise shall cover the compilation of two registers; the village council register for purposes of electing the village (LCI) Chairpersons and the village women's council register for purposes of electing the village women's committee.

He noted that residents will be required to present for registration the National Identity Number or application of ID number, Age, Gender and Village of residence.

Byabakama said the Commission will display the Voters' register from October 31, to November 1, in all the 59,624 villages across the country for verification of voters.

Meanwhile, the commission has booked November 21, as the polling date for the village elections.
