MUBS 2 KU 1

Thursday

Kyambogo v Nkumba

MUBS head coach Charles Ayiekho was ecstatic after guiding MUBS to a 2-1 win over defending champions Kampala University (KU) in the University Football League at the MUBS Arena in Nakawa on Wednesday afternoon.

Man of the match Moses Kafumba opened the scoring in the 56th minute before team captain Nelson Mandela doubled the lead four minutes later.

Najib Tusaba pulled one back for the final minute of the game, a goal that could prove pivotal ahead of the return leg.

With mainly a youthful side, Ayiekho had hitherto been sceptical that KU which had continued to beat MUBS could do it again.

Simple approach

One coach who often takes the simplest approach in the University Football League and still achieves is Deo Sserwadda of Kyambogo.

And he doesn't intend to complicate his approach to the quarterfinal clash with Nkumba at Kyambogo tomorrow.

As he prepared for the first leg at Kyambogo, Sserwadda told New Vision "the best way to defend is to attack and so we shall do that. I can't tell you how but just know we are at home and we shall attack".

Sserwadda's confidence against the 2016 finalists hinges on the fact that they achieved their biggest result against Nkumba last season.

Kyambogo University beat Nkumba 3-0 at home before drawing goalless in the return leg in Entebbe.

But Sserwadda may not have carry similar confidence into tomorrow's match because his largely junior side should expect to face experienced players in the league.

Nkumba coach Patrick Ssebuliba on the other hand believes that his team is motivated enough to get to the final which they narrowly lost to Kampala University at Namboole last year.
