UCC had imposed an indefinite ban on live video coverage and radio broadcasts.

Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has lifted the media ban on live coverage of Parliament proceedings.

UCC had imposed an indefinite ban on live video coverage and radio broadcasts that it deemed exceeding the minimum broadcasting standards.

After the meeting with the broadcasters association, UCC chief Godfrey Mutabaazi told journalists that the ban has been lifted on a strict condition that all TV stations must have live editing equipment before going live.

He also gave a three-month grace period for television proprietors to buy the equipment.

The chairperson of the broadcasters association, Kin Kariisa, said UCC will have the responsibility of visiting all studios to check and monitor the implementation of what has been agreed upon.
