Although schools encourage parents to provide children with school uniforms, Teso parents have paid deaf ears to such advice from teachers.

According to the Ngora County MP David Abala, parents must provide their children with all scholastic materials including uniforms.

Abala said government has lent a hand for paying teachers and other expenses.

He urged parents to take the advantage of Universal Primary Education (UPE) seriously by helping their children with other necessary equipment needed at school as their obligation.

"Parents, it's your role to provide children with uniform" Abala told parents at Atukubui Primary School.

Abala who supported six primary community schools in Ngora with sh2m each last weekend, urged teachers to tighten the issue of uniforms at schools.

Goerge Okurut the assistant inspector of schools in Ngora said parents have forgotten their roles as far as education is concerned.

Many children in government aided, private and community schools don't have uniforms.

Okurut said school uniform is very important more so for identification and also make children look smart and organized.

Stephen Asiata the chairman head teachers association in Ngora encouraged teaches to remind parents of the importance of school uniforms.

"How can schools look like markets?" Asiata asked.
