Tears rolled down the cheeks of relatives of social worker Kenneth Akena, after High Court in Kampala released Mathew Kanyamunyu on bail.

Kanyamunyu, 34, the executive director of Quantum Express Logistics is suspected to have shot Akena in the stomach over the denting of his car. Akena died a day after at Norvik Hospital, on Bombo Road in Kampala.

Today, Justice Wilson Kwesiga granted Kanyamunyu a cash bail of sh10m on grounds that he has substantial sureties and a permanent place of residence at Royal Palms along Butabika Road.

His five sureties, who were ordered to execute a bond of sh10m not cash are Moses Karuhanga, 41, Julius Kanyamunyu, 50, Miriam Ssebunya, 62, Stella Karuhanga, 64, and Gad Gasatura, 66, all relatives of the accused.

The court ordered Kanyamunyu to deposit his passport with the registrar of the court within seven days and to report to the registrar in-charge of the court once every month, starting November 6.

The Judge also directed Kanyamunyu not to travel outside the jurisdiction of court without getting permission from the registrar, adding that the state will be free to apply for Kanyamunyu's bail cancellation if he fails to turn up in court.

Kwesiga observed that there was uncertainty to when Kanyamunyu's substantial trial will start, given that the judiciary was still trying cases of 2013.

Kanyamunyu is battling charges of murder together with his brother Joseph and girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari, who were the first to be released on bail in March this year.

Prosecution alleges that the accused and others still at large on November 12, 2016 along Kampala-Jinja road opposite Malik car bond with malice aforethought caused the death of Akena.
