Bunyangabu district new chairperson sets priorities

On Monday Mugarama took over office as the first duly elected district chairperson for Bunyangabu.

 

James Ategeka Mugarama, the Bunyangabu district chairperson has said that in his three-year term of office, he will focus on service delivery and infrastructure development.

On Monday Mugarama took over office as the first duly elected district chairperson for Bunyangabu.

"I am so grateful to the people of Bunyangabu for the leadership challenge that they gave me. I will do all it takes to services them," Mugarama said in his first speech as district chairperson.

He explained that his leadership will put emphasis on improving the road network in the district, education, having functional health centres at all lower local government units, extension of clean water and electricity to all sub counties.

Mugarama has also pledged to construct and complete a modern and befitting district headquarter within a space of three years.

On corruption, Mugarama said that his office will ensure clean and corrupt free leadership for Bunyangabu.

"Anyone who attempts to engage in corrupt tendencies will be exposed and compelled to refund our money. We shall not let down the people by protecting any corrupt person," he emphasized.

He appealed to all leaders and stakeholders in the district to forge a good working relationship by forgetting and putting their political differences aside for the good of Bunyangabu.

In his hand over report, Peter Musinguzi the interim chairperson said that in the last three months of office in the new district, a number of milestones have been reached.

He highlighted some of his achievements as separation of Bunyangabu pay role from Kabarole district, the signing and awarding of district contracts among others.

"I welcome you to this job. As district chairman, it's your duty to bring all district stakeholders on board," Musinguzi said.

He also cautioned the new chairperson against being influenced by individuals who are vying for their selfish interests.

Adolf Mwesige, the defence minister and area Member of Parliament who was the chief guest at the ceremony asked the new district leadership to pick special interest in the teaching of ICT in all schools in the district.

"With the coming of new technology, some jobs will cease to exist hence there's urgent need to train and skill our youth with ICT so that they do not have to depend on manual labour for survival," Mwesige said.

Mwesige also congratulated the new executive members of the district that include John Manume, the vice chairperson, Amina Kaija secretary for finance, Annet Rubagumya  secretary for finance and Natukunda Dafuroza secretary for production. Moses Ikagobya was also elected as the district speaker.

"I expect to work closely with you (Mugarama), your executive and the entire council to champion development in the young district" he said.
