The Magistrates' Court in Lyantonde district has remanded Dr Joseph Lusisira, the officer in charge of Kabayanda Health Centre II, to Kakondo Prison over attempted murder.

Lusisira is said to have tied and set on fire,  a one Lawrence Ssebuuma who he accused of stealing his coffee.

Lusisira (45) was arrested last week and detained for over six days before he was arraigned in court.

Since his arrest, Ssebuuma's family members and friends mounted pressure on Police to produce the suspect and his accomplices in court.

They also blocked his Police bond claiming he would disappear again without trial.

Tadeo Muinda, the Lyantonde Grade One Magistrate, did not allow Lusisira to take plea saying the nature of his case was tried in High Court.

He later said that Lusisira will be transferred to Masaka Prison.

Prosecution said that the accused and his accomplices dragged Lusisira out of one of the local bars accusing him of theft of coffee.

They tied and beat him up. Lusisira later doused Ssebuma's clothes with petrol and set him ablaze.

He was rescued later rescued by good Samaritans who rushed him to Lyantonde Hospital. Ssebuuma sustained severe burns all over the body.

According to medics attending to him, his wounds are critical.
