The implementation of good agronomics practices has seen a number of farmers in Tororo district move a big step in improving household income and fight poverty in their homes.

This comes as result of continued training and support extended by Sasakawa Global 2000, an organisation supporting small-holder farmer groups. Following the registered progress, the organisation has rewarded the best farmer groups to motivate members to scale up the practice and train other farmers.

Rosette Kemigisha Jingo, the organisation programme officer, appealed to the group members to carry out internal competitions in agronomic practices and build capacity of other members who wish to have their support.

Speaking to members of Morukatipe Development Group and Nyalakot Field Farm School in Osukuru sub-county on Friday, Kemigisha who was accompanied by other staff handed over prizes to the groups as a motivation for their tremendous performance.

She also called upon all the member groups and individuals to set up target that will enable them to perform much better as they continue to practice farming as a family business.

The prizes included spray pumps, tarpaulins and pesticides.

Grace Amoit, the chairperson of Morukatipe Development Group said they were able to buy a Fuso truck to help them with transportation of their groundnuts, maize and soya bean harvests, thanks to Sasakawa.

Terensio Otwani of Nyalakot Field Farm School said at least all the 22 members have built houses and educated their children.
