Police explain Bobi Wine arrest

Sep 22, 2017

According to Police, Bobi Wine made remarks before he left the country for which he should be held accountable.

The Police on Friday afternoon blocked Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine at Entebbe International Airport on his return from New York.

His supporters had gathered to receive him, but the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Frank Mwesigwa ordered the Police to block his vehicle.

He was ordered to report to Entebbe Police Station and make a statement.

Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi was recently quoted attacking fellow legislators in the 10th Parliament  for what he called ‘sinking the country further’ after they accepted to remove the cap on presidential age limit.

In a strongly worded statement, which has since then been picked by a number of foreign news channels, Kyagulanyi said rather than partaking in changing the country’s Constitution, the legislators should be joining hands to find solutions to gigantic problems besetting the country.

He enumerated the problems as poor service delivery, rising maternal mortality figures and unexplained murders in the country.

He added: “Our children face an uncertain future where unemployment is the order of the day. The national debt has turned us into slaves and the gun is the master. The pearl of Africa is now a laughing stock among nations.”

“[But ] in reponse to all this, … elected members of Parliament think that the best response to this crisis and national shame is to remove age limit and continue with the same nonsense. Other than thinking about how to rescue Uganda from this mess, they are asking that Uganda sinks even deeper!” he said.

“You are traitors,” he said. “…You have sold your conscience. History will judge you very harshly.”

“You should remember that it is your children and your children’s children who will have to inherit this mess you are creating.”

A Private member's Bill is expected to be tabled to Parlaiment next week and the House will vote on it.
