The Police have explained that the heavy deployment of the Army and more police in town is meant to ensure order in the city.

This follows reports that the visible heavy deployment of the Military Police is meant to threaten the Opposition and other activist groups from holding their activities.

Yesterday, there was heavy deployment of Military Police and more anti-riot police in different parts of the city.

Many onlookers concluded that this was meant to restrain several protests planned by several groups against the amendment of Article 102 (b) on age limit.

However, when asked about the deployment, the Uganda Police Force spokesperson, Asan Kasingye, said it is a normal deployment.

"It is our duty to protect the Constitution, people and their property. We work together with other sister security agencies to make sure that our people are safe, and to ensure law and order," he said.

He said they are only fulfilling their constitutional mandate.
