A dearth of goals characterised the start of 2017/18 Uganda Premier League season with only one goal registered in the five games played on a wet Tuesday evening.

Vitalis Tabu scored the lone goal from a set piece as last season's runners-up SC Villa edged Soana 1-0 at Masaka Recreation Ground to move top of the table.

Defending champions KCCA endured a frustrating start to their title defence and rode their luck at times against newly promoted Maroons at StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.

KCCA custodian Charles Lukwago put in a man of the match performance with several crucial saves to earn his side a point.

At Champion Stadium in Mwererwe, ten man Bright Stars held Vipers 0-0 while Police's match away to Masavu at Fisheries Training Institute in Entebbe was abandoned after the home side failed to produce licenses for its players.

The league resumes with two games on Thursday where Express will host Kirinya Jinja SS at Wankulukuku Stadium and URA will host UPDF at Mandela National Stadium.
