Tooro Marathon aims to equip Kyenjojo Hospital

Over 2000 people have so far registered for the Tooro Marathon set for Saturday in Fort Portal.

The run was the brain child of the Kingdom of Tooro that identified Kenjojo General Hospital's need for equipment to help with the unfortunate road accident victims of the Kampala-Fort Portal highway.

"Kyenjojo Hospital receives a lot of accident victims because it's on the highway between Fort Portal and Mubende, on which accidents are very rampant. The hospital normally receives at least two fatal accidents every week," Tooro Kingdom deputy minister for health Richard Muhagi said.

It's because of such unfortunate occurrences that the kingdom decided to chip in and help the situation in the area and also save some lives as well.

"As a kingdom we saw a gap so we are using this run to procure patient monitors, trolleys and oxygen concentrators for the hospital," he said.

Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru is expected to grace the run and participate in the 5km race. Participants have the option of either doing the 10km or the 5km during the run.

"His Royal Highness will be the chief runner, he will do the 5km and so far about 2000 people have registered to run come Saturday," Muhagi stated.

The marathon's noble cause has excited many in the area including the neighbouring kingdoms that have planned to join in.

"This cause is unifying the people it has brought many on board especially the king and our partners like Post Bank who donated the kits for the run. Neighbouring kingdoms like Rwezururu and Obudhingiya bwa Bwamba are also set to participate," Muhagi confirmed.

The run will get underway at 7am in Fort Portal and participants will only pay sh10,000 to take part.
