Bahati keen to double medal haul at World University Games

Aug 27, 2017

Sadic Bahati and Dorcus Ajok return to the track in the 5000m (men) and 1500m (women) heats

By day seven of the ongoing World University Games in Taipei, Uganda had registered two medals (gold and bronze) in the 10000m (men) and 800m (women) respectively.

The Ndejje University pair of Dorcus Ajok and Sadic Bahati brought joy to camp after remarkable performances.

Bahati and Ajok return to the track in the 5000m (men) and 1500m (women) heats as they look to register doubles. John Kateregga who finished fourth in the 10000m will be in the other heat of the 5000m race while Agnes Amuron will join Ajok in the 800m heats.

Ajok is looking to defend the 1500m title she won in South Korea two years ago while Bahati will want to emulate Wilson Busienei who won gold in the 5000m, 10000m and half marathon in Izmir, Turkey in 2005.

"I feel energized after that Gold in the 10000m, I think I will return to the podium after the 5000m finals on Monday," Bahati said.

"There is always light at the end of a tunnel, before I left London I felt so low, now is the time I need to put that behind me and make my country proud," Ajok said.

Timothy Ongom and Fortunate Turihohabwe will also look to place their names in the books they represent in the 800m (men) and the half marathon.

In basketball, the ladies will go out in search of their first win when they take on Chile in a 13th to 16th place playoff after falling to Lithuania 59 - 92.

"The learning curve has been gradual and I'm happy with the team. They have improved in the last four games," coach Nick Natuhereza remarked.

The games that started with the opening ceremony on August 20 will climax on August 30.
