Little known Sadic Bahati entered the record books after winning Uganda's first medal at the 29th World University games in Taipei.

The Ndejje University student clocked a personal best of 29 mins: 08 secs: 68 finishing ahead of Alexander Soare and Shiojiro Kazuya of Romania and Japan respectively.

Bahati joins Wilson Busienei who won gold medals in the 5000m, 10000m and half marathon at the same games in Izmir, Turkey in 2005.

"This is a great achievement not for me but my country and institution. I am happy I pulled it off though it was tight," Bahati.

Compatriots John Kateregga narrowly missed out on a podium finish, coming home fourth in 29 mins: 44 secs: 31, while Kenneth Migadde had a no mark (NM). At the same games in 2005, Wilson Busienei won gold in the 5000m, 10000m and half marathon in Izmir, Turkey.

Action continues today, as middle distance runner Dorcus Ajok who slashed her time set in the heats by a second qualified for the final of the women's 800m.  Ajok clocked 2:03 secs: 13 to win a semifinal heat one; however, was ranked fourth of the eight runners who made the cut to the final.

Cuba's Blanco Almanza will be the athlete to beat in the finals if Ajok is to return home with gold. "My heat was slow, I believe the finals will be different pray the conditions aren't chilly as it's been in the last two days," Ajok after the race.

Sprinter Shida Leni's dream of winning a medal came to an end after she failed to progress to the finals of the Women's 400m finishing fourth in heat two in 53:44secs, just a second off the mark.

Badminton cast led by Shamim Bangi were knocked out of the mixed team event in the semifinals by Estonia 3 -1 after a remarkable performance in the quarterfinals were they saw off Bhutan 5 -0.

The Women's basketball side will have to play a game of their life against Lithuania if they are to finish between positions 9th to 16th. The side coached by Nick Natuhereza will make a few changes to aside that hasn't won a game since 2015 in South Korea.

The games that started on 19th August will climax with a closing ceremony on 30th August at the Taipei stadium.
