City Tyres commits to USPA road safety campaign

This year’s campaign is under the theme ‘Beware Speed Kills’

The Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) Road Safety Campaign due September 2rd at Wobulenzi has been boosted to a tune of sh7m from City Tyres.

The annual event is organised with the aim of sensitizing the general public about road safety and previously it has been held along Masaka, Lugazi, Jinja, Entebbe roads among others.

City Tyres marketing manager, Herbert Bashaasha handed over a dummy a cheque of sh7m to USPA president Sabiiti Muwanga at function held at their offices along Sixth Street in Industrial Area on Tuesday.

"We want to thank USPA for sensitizing the public on road safety. We believe this will help on the road carnage. As City Tyres we are ready to continue supporting this campaign," stated Bashaasha.

The sh7m from City Tyres includes caps, T-shirts, balls, trophies and facilitating the organization of the campaign.​

This year's campaign is under the theme ‘Beware Speed Kills'.

Muwanga hailed City Tyres for the continued support to the campaign.  

"We are grateful to City Tyres for the continued support to this campaign and I believe the public will gain from it," said Muwanga.

But before the road safety campaign, they will be a church service next week on Tuesday at Christ the King Church to remember all the deceased sports journalists and members of the public that lost their beloved ones in road accidents.

City Tyres and Standard Chartered Bank have been the main sponsors of the campaign for the past ten years.

KCCA FC and UNRA also joined the campaign which began after four USPA executive members; Simon Peter Ekarot, Leo Kabunga, Kenneth Matovu and Francis Batte Jr perished in a road accident in Lugazi in 2001.
