Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate, Gen Mugisha Muntu has decried the use of hate speech in the party's campaigns.

Five candidates are vying for the top seat including Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa among others.

Muntu's outburst stems from accusations labelled against him by other presidential challengers that he failed the party's defiance campaign when he elected a shadow cabinet after they lost the 2016 presidential election that they claim was rigged.

In a joint press conference with other candidates Muntu said it is wrong to taint his image among party members.

"In 2006 we believed we won and were cheated and we even went to court to contest the outcome. We sat and debate the question; should we go to Parliament? We said yes" Muntu said.

"In 2016 the same thing more or less happened. The question I would like to ask colleagues who keep pushing that thing is: why do you think 2016 would be different? Is it because I am the party president? Is it that I am being targeted simply as an individual? I didn't take an individual decision" Muntu added.

Muntu's challenger, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, called for calm among candidates.
