The Electoral Commission (EC) chairman, Simon Byabakama, has said during elections of women MPs, district chairmen and local government councillors for the five newly-created districts, no fundraising activities shall be allowed.

The new districts that became effective on July 1 are Bunyangabu, Kyotera, Namisindwa, Pakwach and Rukiga.

"The purpose of this ban is to allow a leveled-ground for all candidates in the race," Byabakama told journalists in Kampala on Wednesday.

For avoidance of doubt, Byabakama said, this ban takes effect from the respective cut-off dates for registration of voters and transfer of voting location in each district and will continue until polling day.

"Those found to be contravening the law shall be dealt with accordingly," he warned.
