Rukundo bags inaugural Johnnie Walker Monthly Mug

He edged out Robert Ntege by two strokes

Ernest Rukundo returned 65nett to win the inaugural edition of the Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Club monthly mug at Kitante on Saturday.

Rukundo consequently earned himself the biggest mug edging Robert Ntege (67nett) who was runner-up by two strokes.

Hard hitting Faiz Alam who since January has bagged three runners up mugs in the men's Group A and won the longest drive contest twice, carded 69 to this time win the group and relegating UPDF golfer, Private Richard Baguma to second place.

Group B was taken by veteran John Waigo (68nett) who was two strokes better than Sam Byaruhanga (70nett) while Paul Ekudu and George Egadu returned the best scores in Group C with 70 and 71nett respectively.

Group D John Mwangi and Alfred Kabuchu tied with 73 nett each with the former winning on count-back.

In the ladies category, Bridget Nakamoga carded 71nett to win her second mug of the year with another youngster Judith Komugisha finishing second with 73nett.

Ruth Ssali (69nett) and Jackie Kamunyu (70nett) were the podium finishers in the ladies' Group B while Martha Babirye settled for the longest drive prize alongside Vincent Asiimwe who walked away with a Red Label whiskey each.

UBL's Head of Whisky portfolio Annette Nakiyaga said the six-month partnership with the Uganda Golf Club could culminate into a big sponsorship and into an East African Johnnie Walker Challenge in the future.
