New date for Parliament job interviews announced

Jul 25, 2017

Interviews will now be held on Monday July 31 and August 1, parliament has announced.

Up to 4,000 applicants hoping for a job opportunity at Parliament can at last have something to smile about after the institution announced new dates for botched interviews.

Interviews will now be held on Monday July 31 and August 1, parliament has announced.

An abrupt systems failure forced Parliament to halt the initial job interviews 11 days ago, kicking up controversy pitting Makerere University and Parliament of Uganda.

Parliament blamed Makerere for failing to test the integrity of their IT system even after taking payments from Parliament to do so. On the other Makerere University Vice Chancellor John Dumba Sentamu told New Vision that parliament had made an inappropriate approach while securing the contract with the university.

According Sentamu, Parliament side stepped his office, which is legally mandated to handle such matters, preferring instead to deal directly with Makerere university school of science and technology.

This is after the university was castigated following the collapse and subsequent cancelation of the aptitude test, affecting thousands of applicants some of whom had travelled hundreds of kilometres from upcountry for the coveted opportunity.

New Vision was unable to establish if the anomalies have been sorted.

But in a statement released today, parliament says all candidates are now expected to report to Makerere University before 9:00 am for the aptitude test interview on July 31 and August 1.

Parliament is seeking to fill 27 slots which have attracted a record applications of 10,000 people although parliament's human resource department shortlisted only 4,000 people.

The vacant positions include Accountant, Administrative Assistant, Assistant Door Keeper,  Assistant Editor Of Hansard, Assistant Stores Officer, Clerk Assistant, Driver, Economist, Information Technology Officer, Legal Counsel, Librarian, Lithographer, Plumber, Procurement Officer, Protocol Officer, Public Affairs Officer - Camera, Public Information And Education Officer, Research Officer - Lawyer, Research Officer - Statistician, Senior Research Officer - Energy And Minerals, Senior Systems Analyst, Systems Administrator and Technician.
