UCC has also accused MTN Uganda for not communicating to the industry regulator

It is has been quite a time for whoever runs MTN Uganda's Twitter handle. The telecom giant's Twitter feed has been bombarded with complaints over the quality of its data services in recent times.

Well, it seems Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has taken note of subscribers' concerns and tasked MTN Uganda to justify all the price changes in data and voice offerings over the past twelve months.

UCC has also accused MTN Uganda for not communicating to the industry regulator before effecting changes in pricing of the services as per regulations.

In an explosive letter dated July 7th and addressed to MTN Uganda CEO Wim Vanhelleputte by UCC executive director Godfrey Mutabazi, the industry regulator directed the operator to explain by close of business Wednesday.

"The commission now directs that you submit the most up to date schedule of retail pricing for all regulated services and products available on MTN platform(s). Furthermore, the commission directs that MTN provide a detailed justification for all price changes implemented in the past 12 months, for which the commission was not notified in advance," wrote Mutabazi.

MTN Uganda's corporate affairs' senior manager, Justina Ntabgoba-Kayemba told New Vision on Wednesday morning that she did not know about the letter that was widely shared on social media.

She requested the author of this article to share the letter with her before she could comment on the subject.

When contacted again, after the letter had been emailed to her, she said MTN had only received the letter on Tuesday evening, despite it being dated July 7th.

"We are engaging UCC and we shall get back to you once we have an official response," she said.
