The leadership of Toroma Sub County in Katakwi district has challenged government to stop foreign businessmen from buying harvest in Teso region cheaply.

The appeal follows a recent statement made by the State Minister for Disaster Preparedness Musa Ecweru while delivering relief food to Toroma, that people should stop selling harvests in preparation for hard times ahead.

Ben Kizito Obwalinga the area LC3 chairperson said it would be better to stop the businessmen from buying harvests in Teso.

He expressed worry that failure to stop people from selling harvest will impact negatively on people without harvest.

Obwalinga added that the minister should consider limiting selling of harvest within Teso and stop businessmen who come from Kenya and South Sudan among others.

Erinayo Ekodor, one of the residents in Kapujan Sub County, Katakwi district in an interview with New Vision said that currently people depend on selling the little harvest they have for paying tuition.

He added that not selling the harvest means ending access to necessities like soap and clothes among others.

Christine Ayudo, a resident of Toroma said they buy household needs like salt and sugar upon selling harvests.
