Youth soccer league in the offing

Devin Yaeger announced the plan to create a youth soccer league on Monday.

Plans are underway to start a youth soccer league following the completion of the first phase in the refurbishment of the football pitch at Kibuli Police Children's School.

The president of Yaeger Development Agency, a non-profit organisation, Devin Yaeger announced the plan to create a youth soccer league at a press briefing at the school on Monday.

"With the development of the football pitch, we hope to partner with Edgar's youth programme to start a youth league that will not only benefit the children of this school but the community as a whole."

He hopes to help build relationships with members of the community through the project.

"If these children can play together, eat together and break bread together then it creates an element of trust among the community," he said.

"The idea is to help integrate children of the police and children of the community which will help with civic engagement. If there is a crime committed against one of the parents he or she may say, my children play with the children of the police so it's okay to report to the police because they are good people."

In the next phase of the project, the NGO wants to build a pavilion for the spectators who will be at the grounds.

The football pitch that was given a facelift at the beginning of the year, is not yet fit for use but in the next two to three months, it will be ready.

Headteacher Hajji Swaibu Kawoya has admitted that his pupils can't wait to start utilising the facility.
