Wanderers have been pegged as strong contenders in this year's Women's Mehta T20 Cup. Feted Jinja SS coach Habibu Mugalula predicted an even stronger Wanderers side in the near future following a riveting two game fixture between the two sides Saturday at Lugogo oval.

In what turned out to be a shared spoils affair, Mugalula admitted Wanderers have developed a hard to beat aura that comes from having graduated into a very well balanced side.

The addition of experienced cricketers Consy Aweko and Gloria Adubu from KICC has given the team momentum and relief to the much younger girls on the team.

"I believe Wanderers will become harder to beat because their players seem to carry slightly the same abilities, very energetic and work as a unit," said Habibu Mugalula, who won the previous edition with Jinja SS in 2015.

It needs to be remembered that the 2016 edition was not held because of the National team engagement in the UAE International Women's T20 Cup.

New signing Consy Aweko claimed 3 wickets in 3 overs as Janet Mbabazi and Co won by 6 wickets in the first game before a reverse result in the afternoon when Jinja SS' rising star Sarah Walaza took 5 as Jinja SS to win by 27 runs

"The start is good for the team but we may need some time to develop partnerships as there is new players who we need to learn working with" said Janet Mbabazi skipper Wanderers.

Mixed results swept the entire fixtures as none of the teams registered two wins as four teams battled out.

At Kyambogo Olila and Tornado Bee took one game each with some bit of rivalry between players that left Tornado Bee for the "new comers" Olila in the top flight action.

Gertrude Chandiru and Rachael Ntono were focal figures during Tornado Bee's triumphant season last year where they won the league in easy reach.

However, they have since pledged their allegiance to Olila and when the two sides met, there were clash of egos and at the end of the day it was shared spoils in the two game fixture.

Mary Nalule's 22 not out off 35 balls ensured she became man of the match as Tornado Bee beat up on Olila by 9 wickets in game two as Gertrude Chandiru struck 31 not out off 41 balls and Rachael Ntono took  2 wickets in 4 overs  to inspire Olila to a 4 wickets win in the first game.

Meanwhile, Charity's troubles are far from over after faltering at the expense of Premier in the division two National Women's league. Charity Nyokaru claimed 4 wickets as Premier beat Charity by 4 wickets at Ndejje oval. Charirty were relegated from division one last year.

The Mehta T20 Cup and the National League will run concurrently this season.
