NEMA gets extra sh5b for staff recruitment

NEMA has often defended its lukewarm execution of its mandate to being thin on ground because of low staffing levels.

The National Environment Authority (NEMA) has been allocated an extra sh5b in its 2017/2018 budget to enable it recruit more staff

The allocation is part of the sh380b parliament reallocated from various items to give funds to more deserving causes.

NEMA has often defended its lukewarm execution of its mandate to being thin on ground because of low staffing levels.

Although the executive had not allocated the funds for recruitment,  Legislators on the parliament budget committee considered deserving and using its appropriation power enshrined in the Public Finance Management Act, parliament allocated the extra sh5b to NEMA.
