Uganda Cranes will play Cape Verde Islands at 8:30pm tonight (Sunday) after CAF shifted their opening AFCON 2019 qualifier match from Saturday.

The game was slated for Saturday but a delay in Uganda Cranes arrival to Praia forced the postponement.

While on their way to Cape Verde city of Praia, the Uganda Cranes flight to the Island was delayed by over eight hours at Leopold Sedar Sengor international airport in Dakar, Senegal.

An engagement involving FUFA, CAF and the host federation in Cape Verde resolved to have the game played today.

Uganda Cranes was stuck at Leopold Sedar Sengor International airport in Dakar, Senegal after their flight number VR8001 has been delayed by over eight hours. The plane reportedly developed a technical fault that caused the delay.

The delay left the players a little disoriented.

Before postponing the match football fans, majority of whom are for the home side had started gathering at Estádio da Várzea in Praia expecting to watch the match between the two sides that have only met twice before.

The contingent that was stuck at Leopold Sedar Sengor international airport included Denis Onyango, Nicholas Wadada, Godfrey Walusimbi, Murshid Juuko, Khalid Aucho, Hassan Wasswa, Faruku Miya, Benjamin Ochan, Denis Okoth, Timothy Awany and Milton Kariisa.

The officials include the FUFA president Moses Magogo, leader of delegation Denis Mbidde, head coach Milutin Sredejovic, his assistants Moses Basena, Fred Kajoba, team doctors Ronald Kisolo, and Ivan Ssewanyana, Buganda region delegate Sulait Makumbi and yours truly.

Due to flight connection problems, Bernard Muwanga, Emmanuel Okwi, Isaac Muleme, Derick Nsimbabi, Geoffrey Sserunkuuma, Kakeeto and Muhammad Shaban, the team manager Chrispus Muyinda and a journalist Afriqana Nsereko had to travel earlier.
