Namirembe Diocese was chosen to organize this year's Uganda Martyrs' Day celebrations at the Anglican Martyrs shrine to commemorate the death of the 43 young men, who were killed for their faith under the orders of Kabaka Mwanga.

The annual celebration that attracts millions of pilgrims from all over the world is held at Namugongo where most of the Martyrs were burnt to ashes.

According to the Rev Michael Wasswa of Namugongo Anglican Shrine, the day's theme will be ‘Don't Die In Vain (Phil 1:21)'.

Wasswa told New Vision that preparations at the diocese and national levels were in high gear to ensure that the celebrations are held in the most dignified, appropriate and deserving manner.

He said that the yearly pilgrimage enables believers to solidify their growing belief and enhances their glowing faith within them whenever they are able to make the blessed journey to Namugongo.

"Namirembe Diocese will lead the celebrations and the guest preacher will be Bishop Gasatura from Rwanda" Wasswa said.

He said that celebrations will start on May 27 with a children's program at the Martyrs site at Nakiyanja-Namugongo.

On Sunday, Namirembe Diocese will celebrate Musa Mukasa's day at the Munyonyo Shrine.
