Jinja College's Abel Matovu won the U20 category with 6 points when he outsmarted all his opponents.

Matovu's display helped him overshadow the 2014 U15 National Junior champion, Michael Basangwa.

Basangwa, a pre-tournament favourite settled for second position after grabbing only 4.5 points, while Denise Butungi managed only one point.

"It is good to see new faces triumph," said the Chess Life Academy Director and event organizer, John Vianney Mukalazi.

"It is a positive sign that the game is developing and many children are actually learning and improving."

Marvin Namwanda won the U14 section with 8 points. In the U12 category; Vincent Buwule effortlessly topped the table with seven points.

He saw off stiff competition from Edgar Ampaire, another player who represented the country at the Zonal Championships in Mombasa, to win the event.

Meanwhile, in the U10 and U8 categories, Kevin Mary Ndagire and Terry Tendo were crowned champions in the respectively.

The annual event attracted over 69 participants.
