MPs quiz NDA boss over expired condoms

The Authority currently has only one piece of equipment which can test condoms

MPs on the health committee of Parliament have tasked officials from the National Drug Authority (NDA) to explain the increased number of expired condoms on the market.

"You are keeping condoms that are about to expire. Reason is you don't have capacity to test these condoms before they are distributed. Why don't increase on the number of equipment to test condoms to avoid their expiry?" Dr. Michael Bukenya the committee chairperson asked.

However in response Kusemererwa disputed the allegation, saying the Authority had acquired a second machine, to help them test the condoms.

She noted that the Authority currently has only one piece of equipment, which she said could sometimes create delays in testing of the condoms.

The committee was on Thursday meeting officials from NDA led by Donna Kusemererwa, the executive director NDA.

The Authority is seeking approval of a sh44b budget for the financial year 2017/18.
