My fiancé and I are sickle cell carriers, should we call off our wedding?

May 11, 2017

It all began when we went to the hospital for an HIV test and the doctor advised us to also do other tests before we have children.

My husband to be and I have been dating for three years or so. We have decided to get married in a three-month' time. Unfortunately our dream may not come to pass because we have just discovered we are sickle-cell carriers.

It all began when we went to the hospital for an HIV test and the doctor advised us to also do other tests before we have children.

After testing for a number of diseases including hepatitis B, HIV, and sickle cells among others, we discovered that we were both sickle cell carriers. The doctor has advised us not to get married because our union may affect our future children.

I have seen sicklers and I do not wish my children to go through such pain. I love my fiancé so much; but I cannot bear the fact that we may give birth to children with sickle cells.

I'm in a dilemma, I cannot live without him. What should I do?
