Mark Imalingat Ocepa was arrested on Monday

Children's rights advocates in Katakwi district have called for thorough investigations into a case where the head teacher of Magoro Primary School is alleged to have defiled a girl.

Mark Imalingat Ocepa was arrested on Monday after relatives of the victim reported the matter to Police.

It's alleged that he defiled the minor last Friday at around 5pm, which he strongly denies.

However the executive director Foundation for Development of Children at Risk, Fredrick Otim Adulai, said Police should thoroughly investigate the matter.

He claimed that many perpetuators of defilement, mostly teachers, have been set free despite credible evidence.

"It's disheartening to see perpetrators of defilement go unpunished yet they are the ones to nurture children", said Otim.

Otim warned that unless teachers who defile underage girls are punished accordingly, the trend won't end.

When reached for a comment, the OC CID, John Odongo, confirmed that investigations into the case are underway.

"As Police, we are commitment to see that we uncover the truth about the case" he said.
