Uganda Golf Club wins Inter-Club championship

A sense of competitiveness and the passion for winning was reignited among the golfing fraternity as Uganda Golf Club (UGC) beat Entebbe 27.5-14.5 points in the second leg at Kitante on Saturday to win the inaugural Inter-club golf championships between the two clubs.

UGC took full advantage of the home course winning 27 games and squaring off one in the four-ball-better-ball match play championships played over two legs.

In some of the big wins UGC registered on the day, Ernest Rukundo/Ancel Tumwesigye beat Joseph Nkurunziza and Morgan Otile 6&5, Gerald Owach and Byung Owan beat Sam Kacungira/Patrick Kagoro; 6&5, Jenina Nasimolo/Katy Kabenge beat Resty Nalutaaya/Regina Namata 6&4 with Evelyn Asiimwe and Martha Babirye also getting a 5&4 win over Ruth Mugisha and Maureen Okura.

Despite losing the trophy, there were some solid performances from Entebbe members who had Michael Tumusiime and Ali Juuko winning against Cyril Aluku and Dan Basweti, Hannington Mpiima/Dennis Oola beat Bill Smith/Matt Day; 2UP, Max Byenkya/Rhoda Tumusiime beat Anne Abeja/Aggie Konde 1UP, Edwin Tumusiime/Denis Onyango beat Suresh Patel/Ronald Kasozi; 2&1 and Vincent Katutsi/ Aaron Mugomola winning over Bashir Badu and Morris Ashaba.

But the witty Entebbe golfers could not allow to be beaten twice and took full control of proceedings at the 19th hole with their ‘choir' taking full charge of the entertainment to the delight of the revelers.

But ‘cries' of another re-match (best of three series) on a neutral ground from their chairman Twinemanzi Tumubweinee fell on deaf ears with UGU insisting of going by the initial rules of the two-legged affair.

He was only left to brag about their one point home win where "they beat UGU golfers like they had stolen something,"

In the professionals event Deo Akope beat Robert Oluba 2&1, Herman Mutaawe beat Peter Sendaula 1UP, and Gerald Kabuye beat Silver Opio; 4&3, with the Abbey Bagalana versus Henry Lujja and Brian Mwesigwa and Vincent Byamukama duel ending all square.

The tournament was aimed at creating a strong bond between the two oldest clubs in the country.
