Police arrests Kabalagala Narcotics boss

The Police Professional Standards Unit (PSU) on Friday arrested the head of Narcotics at the Kabalagala Police Division after an impromptu search in his office found him with a number of exhibits that had not been registered. 

Assistant Inspector of Police Moses Bongo was arrested by the police counter intelligence team which also recovered exhibits of illegal drugs, fake currency which included local and foreign currency. 

Kabalagala Division Police Commander Bernard Mugerwa confirmed the arrest but said he was not at the office at the time of arrest.

Sources from the PSU told Sunday Vision that they raided Bongo's office after being tipped off by members of the public over his connection to the drug gang in Kabalagala and surrounding areas. The source revealed that they recovered shs 920, 000 in counterfeit notes. He is currently being detained at the Railway Police Post.

His arrest comes three days after PSU arrested another policeman identified as DC Asiimwe of Special Operations on allegations that he lent a gun to a civilian. 

Police sources told Sunday Vision, the PSU had been directed by the Inspector General of Police to carry out counter intelligence on all police stations and posts within the Kampala Metropolitan area with the aim of checking out on the complaints response, positioning of patrol cars, deployments, patrols among others.

The operation comes in the wake of the appointment of a new PSU boss Joel Aguma over the weekend. It also comes in the wake of a directive from the Head of State President Yoweri Museveni  to  the Inspector General of Police to get rid of criminal elements within the police force shortly after the former Assistant Inspector General of Police Andrew Felix Kaweesi was gunned down on March 17 this year.
