VP Ssekandi meets Buddhist scholar

Speaking during a meeting of fourteen Buddhist Monks from Myanmar who were led by the Sitagu Sayadaw, Vice President paid tribute to him for the active engagement in pro people projects

Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has said that Buddhism worldwide provides spiritual nourishment to its followers and whose doctrine is based on peace and love for humanity.


Speaking during a meeting of fourteen Buddhist Monks from Myanmar who were led by the Sitagu Sayadaw, Vice President paid tribute to him for the active engagement in pro people projects under the Sitagu missionary association especially schools and health infrastructure in various parts of the world.

Ssekandi said that Uganda considers hospital services a key sector in which government aims at attracting support from people of goodwill globally and emphasized that land will be provided in addition to amenities to enable any organization intending to put up such infrastructure.

Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi emphasized that government guarantees freedom of worship and commends the role of faith-based organisations towards soico-economic development in the world.

The Sitagu briefed the Vice President about the number of medical hospitals they have put up in Asia which are over 50 offering mental ailments and disorders and eye rectifications which are key senses to the livelihood of humanity. 

He added that his organization manages about 67 universities around the world especially in low developed countries to equip disadvantaged children with skills as a way of self-sustenance and a means to change their communities.

In other deliberations, they briefed the Vice President about future plans to build a Buddhist Worship Mission to cater for the many worshippers from China, India, Burma, Myanmar, among other countries, but residing in Uganda.

The function was attended by state minister for urban development Isaac Musumba and deputy principal private secretary to Vice President, Kityamuweesi Musubiire.
